Guiding Lights Weekend

March 8-10 in Seattle

March 8-10, 2012
Join hundreds of leaders and change-makers from across America at The Guiding Lights Weekend conference on the art of citizenship. Founded by former White House speechwriter and author Eric Liu, The Guiding Lights Weekend is a creative, cross-sectoral convening for civic activists, educators and entrepreneurs. This is the moment for Americans to reclaim what it means to be a citizen. We invite you to join us March 8-10 in Seattle for inspirational keynotes, hands-on workshops, and great networking. The Weekend is a playful conference with a serious mission: to spark a movement to reimagine citizenship and reclaim our democracy!

The Weekend has an incredible line-up of over forty Luminaries including Van Jones, founder Rebuild The Dream; Lawrence Lessig, author, law professor, Harvard University; Points of Light Institute CEO Michelle Nunn; Jose Antonio Vargas, journalist and founder of Define American; Ai-jen Poo, founder of Domestic Workers Alliance; MomsRising director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner; Akhil Reed Amar, law professor, Yale University; Yes! Magazine's executive editor Sarah van Gelder; Why Tuesday?'s Jacob Soborff; David Smith and Kristen Cambell from The National Conference on Citizenship; Mark Meckler, co-founder Tea Party Patriots, and dozens more.

On Saturday morning (March 10 at 7:30), NCoC will host a breakfast session called “Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: Exploring the link between civic engagement and employment.” Civic behaviors such as political involvement, volunteering, and giving help generate the flow of information, trust, and connection in communities. Therefore, active participation in civic life is required for a community to be socially and economically healthy. This session will present NCoC research demonstrating this theory, and engage audience in a discussion on the findings, their motivators, and their implications for communities. A light breakfast will be provided.

Add your voice to the movement, attend The Guiding Lights Weekend! Registration is very affordable and group rates are available.
