NCoC Goes VirtualJoin us online for the 2009 ConferenceSeptember 1, 2009
![]() This year, NCoC looks forward to expanding beyond the Conference walls to allow individuals who cannot join the event in Washington, D.C. to participate online. Through the utilization of several forms of social media (also known as Web 2.0 technologies), virtual attendees will be able to watch conference programming, as well as submit questions and comments online. We’ll be streaming the event online and every time the conference opens for questions, our “Twitter Correspondents Desk” will make sure we take one that was submitted online. Subscribe to our U-Stream channel at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/2009-national-conference-on-citizenship to watch the event live beginning at 9 a.m. on September 9. If you plan to watch the online event as part of a high school or college class, let us know in advance by emailing kcambell (at) ncoc(dot)net and we will work with you to bring your questions to the conference mainstage. Guests in the room are invited to bring their laptops and take advantage of the Library’s free guest wifi access. We have a special section of seats reserved for bloggers who would like to cover the event live; to reserve your space, please email Kristen at kcambell (at) ncoc(dot)net We are expecting the largest NCoC gathering we’ve ever hosted and we couldn’t be more excited to be extending our programming online this year. Whether joining us at the Library or from the comfort of your office, we hope you will: • Tweet! Our official conference hashtag is #ncoc • Blog! Carry on conference discussions after the event dismisses. Tweet your links with #ncoc, or send them to us at conference@ncoc.net, and we’ll link them from our website • FlipCam! We’ll be uploading the conference content to YouTube after the event, but we invite you to show us what the program looks like from where you sit. Bring your flipcam and upload your video to our Facebook page at Facebook.com/NCoC1 • Flash! Photos can be uploaded to a fan album on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/NCoC1 • Stream! Subscribe to our U-Stream channel or ask your friends to watch for you online. We can be found at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/2009-national-conference-on-citizenship We’ll compile the thoughts, comments, questions, tweets, and pics you submit to create an interactive post-conference report that will help tell our story, a story about modern citizenship in challenging times. We want to offer special thanks to the Case Foundation for serving as the official Online Engagement sponsor of the conference, and for their continued leadership in elevating the use of social media for civic engagement. The first morning session will take place from 9:00-10:10 AM and will include a tribute to the late Senator Kennedy by MSNBC journalist Chris Matthews, as well as a panel on social innovation featuring Barbara Bush, Justin Rockefeller, Sonal Shah, and Diana Wells, moderated by Jean Case. We will then adjourn for a brief break. At 10:20 Eastern, we will resume with a panel featuring America’s Civic Health Index featuring Bob Graham, Mark Ritchie, and Helen Torres, moderated by Karen Tumulty of TIME Magazine. We will also show a clip from a new PBS documentary by Ken Burns with remarks by Robert Stanton from the Department of the Interior. The conference will then feature a one-on-one conversation with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, presentation of the HOOAH Award to Navy SEAL Eric Greitens, and a naturalization ceremony. This session will end at 1 PM Eastern. A small working group will convene at 2 p.m. Eastern for a session titled “Engaging Citizen 2.0: From Obama to the ‘MyFaceTube’ Revolution, How is Social Media Reshaping Civic Engagement?” that will focus on how “Web2.0” technology and new organizing models have created a new standard for reaching citizens. This session is co-hosted by NCoC, Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement, and the Case Foundation. This session will end at 5 PM Eastern. Whether in the library or in cyberspace, we look forward to seeing you next week at the National Conference on Citizenship. Rate This Page
